Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
The Shreveport Sports moved over the .500 mark for the first time this season as they defeated the Jackson Senators 11-7 Wednesday at Fair Grounds Field.
Jackson had taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring two unearned runs off Shreveport starter Derek Cunningham. That would be the only runs that Cunningham would give up in seven innings of pitching. The Shreveport bats took over scoring three runs in each of the next three innings and ended up with 15 hits in the victory. Everyone in the Shreveport lineup had at least one hit, except Mick Kurhan. Sports catcher Jason Torres became the first Shreveport player to have five hits in one game. Cunningham picked up his third win in six decisions.
The Sports have now won three straight and go to 5-4 in the second half of the season while Jackson drops to 3-6.
Shreveport and Jackson will meet in the second game of the four game series Thursday at Fair Grounds Field. Game time will be 7:05.
