Catcher, Pitcher Added to Bums Roster

WUERFEL PARK - The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce the additions of pitcher Sean Fitzgerald and catcher Shane Rowland to the 2015 roster. Both join the team following stints in affiliated baseball with the Los Angeles Angels and Cleveland Indians respectively.

Fitzgerald is a right-handed pitcher who graduated from Notre Dame in May 2014 and appeared in one rookie-level game with the Angels last season. Considered the ace of the Notre Dame staff, and one of the best in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Fitzgerald made 10 appearances his senior season going 3-3, 2.29 ERA. In 70.2 innings pitched he limited opponents to a .204 average. Eight of his 10 starts statistically qualified as "quality".

Over four years at Notre Dame, he posted a 16-12 record with six saves. In 249 innings of work he struck out 173 and walked just 60.

A native of McLean, VA, his proud parents are Joe and Michelle. He holds a Finance degree from Notre Dame. In his spare time he enjoys playing the guitar.

Rowland joins the Beach Bums after serving as a catcher in the Cleveland system the last two seasons. He was drafted in the 20th round of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft by Cleveland and played that summer with the rookie-level Arizona Indians. In 27 games he batted .218 with one homer, 14 RBI. Then in 2014, he split time at SS-A Mahoning Valley and low-A Lake County. He combined to play in 14 games between the two clubs.

Prior to playing professionally, Rowland spent his collegiate years at the University of Tampa ('12-'13) and University of Miami ('10-'11). A native of Tampa, Rowland was also drafted out of high school in 2010 in the 36th round by Boston. He had a decorated high school career at Tampa's Catholic High participating in, or being named to, a number of events.

This includes; 2010 Florida All-State Team, 2010 Louisville pre-season All-American team, 2009 Aflac All-American Game, 2008 Area Code Games and 2008 & 2009 East Coast Pro Showcase. He also played in the 2009 Connie Mack World Series.

His proud parents are Annette and Donny, who serves as the New York Yankees' Director of International Scouting.

The 10th season of Beach Bums baseball begins Friday May 15 at Evansville at 6:35pm with the home opener scheduled for Friday May 22nd vs. Windy City at 7:05pm.

All games will be broadcast live on 98.1 The Bear.

The Wuerfel Park offices are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Beach Bums will play 51 games at Wuerfel Park in 2015 starting with the home opener and a FANtastic Fireworks Friday on May 22 at 7:05 pm. Season ticket packages are now available!
