
Castillo Becomes Tucson's Hero In Extras

Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders slipped past the Iowa Cubs 5-4 in extra innings on Tuesday night at Tucson Electric Park. Tucson rallied to tie it in the ninth inning with three runs and won it in the tenth with a walk-off single by Wilkin Castillo that brought in Josh Whitesell from second.
Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano made a Major League rehab assignment for the Iowa Cubs tonight going 1-for-3 with a infield single and a strike out swinging. Soriano left the game in the middle of the fifth inning and was replaced by Matt Craig.
A Casey McGehee line drive to left in the third inning scoring pinch runner Josh Kroeger from second brought in the first run of the game. Kroeger had replaced Felix Pie after injuring his right ankle sliding in for a double.
Tucson tied it in the bottom of the third with a Trent Oeltjen sacrifice fly to left scoring Evan MacLane from third. A Bobby Scales solo homerun snapped a 1-1 game in the top of the fourth inning. Iowa added one more in the fourth off a Luis Figueroa RBI single to left to make it a 3-1 ball game.
Iowa extended their lead by three in the ninth with back-to-back doubles by Kroeger and McGehee.
Jesus Merchan led off the bottom of the ninth with a line drive single and was later brought in off a Donnie Kelly single to left. Later in the inning Trent Oeltjen stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and two outs and hit a single to left to tie the game 4-4 and bring the game into extras.
The Sidewinders will face the Iowa Cubs in the second game of their four game series starting at 7:00 PM on Wednesday night. RHP Juan Gutierrez (2-10, 7.18) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Left-hander J.R. Mathes (6-3, 3.57) will start for the Cubs. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:55 p.m.
