Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, Maine - Over the past three weeks, 20 high school students from Casco Bay High School formed Pirate Productions Inc. as they prepared to sell tickets and present the Pirates game this Saturday (January 23) when the Pirates host the Lowell Devils at the Cumberland County Civic Center. This is the fifth year the students will present a Pirates game as part of the Junior Achievement of Maine's "Company Program".
This year, the program and game are presented by UNUM and Irving Oil. With support from the Pirates staff, the Casco Bay students produced a logo, developed business plans and finalized a mission statement and vision for the game the students will present on Saturday. The game is also supported by American Field Services and Dead River Company.
The culmination of the project will be Saturday when the students actually run the Pirates game against the Devils at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Last season, the Pirates, Casco Bay High School and Junior Achievement joined forces to present the Pirates game on January 23th against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers that drew a crowd of 4,686 fans and raised $5,000 for Casco Bay High School's library and technology needs.
Over the past four seasons, the Pirates have helped raise over $20,000 for the Casco Bay High School. This year, the Junior Achievement's Company Program will continue to serve as the model around which the Pirates and the students from Casco Bay High School will use to gain a better understanding about running a business.
All individual tickets purchased from the students at Casco Bay High School for the game this Saturday are $9.00. With every ticket sold through the online store (https://www.formspring.com/forms/Pirates-cbhs ) or in person from a Casco Bay High School student, $2.00 will be donated towards Casco Bay High School's library and technology needs.
Junior Achievement of Maine Inc., is a non-profit, 501(c) (3) whose mission is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives.
The next Pirates game will take place this Saturday (January 23rd) when the Devils visit the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7 p.m. start. It's a Labatt Blue Light Hockey Night in Portland. Join the following friends of Labatt Blue Light and the Portland Pirates to continue your Labatt experience before and after all Pirates games at Binga's Stadium ($3 Labatt drafts before and after all Pirates games), Brian Boru (Saturday nights $2.40 Labatt drafts), Frosty Pint (Saturday $2.50 Labatt Drafts and Labatt Light bottles), and Spring Point Tavern ($2 Labatt drafts every Saturday night). It's also Boy Scouts Night as the Pirates will honor the Pine Tree Council's top popcorn sellers during a pre-game ceremony. If you can't make it to the game you can see it live on Time Warner Cable (channels 9, 12 or 21 depending on your location). Tickets for the game are available by calling Ryan Delaney at 828-4665 ext. 309 or on-line at https://www.formspring.com/forms/Pirates-cbhs.
