Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Lynchburg Hillcats rallied in come-from-behind fashion Friday night, beating the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 6-3, at TicketReturn.com Field.
Down 3-2 in the seventh, Jodd Carter blasted a go-ahead two-run home run to put Lynchburg ahead, 4-3. The Hillcats would never give up the lead, adding a run of insurance in both the eighth and ninth innings.
Steven Kwan doubled to lead off the eighth, and scored after Carter reached on an error. An inning later, Dillon Persinger got aboard on a walk and scored when Jonathan Laureano rocketed an RBI double down the right field line, capping the scoring at 6-3.
For the second straight night, Lynchburg struck first in the opening frame. Kwan led off with a single, and came around to touch home on an Oscar Gonzalez RBI double.
The Pelicans quickly tied the game when D.J. Wilson led off the bottom of the first with a single, and after stealing second, scored on a Miguel Amaya RBI base hit.
Lynchburg grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second inning. Mike Rivera crushed a solo home run to left field, the first of his career.
After tying the game with a run in the second, Myrtle Beach took its first lead of the series on a solo shot from Amaya in the third, making it a 3-2 contest. The game stayed that way until Carter's go-ahead homer.
Adam Scott started for Lynchburg, as the lefty went five innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out seven. Nick Gallagher (Win, 1-0) fired three scoreless innings and struck out four. Kyle Nelson (Save, 1) tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning to nail down the save.
