Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Central Hockey League announced that Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll has been named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending January 13th.
Carroll started and won all three games for the Mudbugs last week, extending his personal winning streak to 10 consecutive starts. The seventh-year 'Bugs goalie gave up just two powerplay goals to Youngstown in a 5-2 Bossier-Shreveport win on Tuesday. He followed that up by surrendering a single goal on the powerplay in Friday's 5-1 win in Rio Grande Valley . Then on Saturday night in Laredo , Carroll gave up only a shorthanded breakaway goal and a late powerplay goal to the Bucks in a 6-2 victory over the top team in the CHL standings. That win was the Mudbugs' 13th in a row, breaking a franchise record that had stood since the 1998-99 WPHL season. In total, Carroll stopped 78 of 83 shots he faced during his 3-0 week, posting a 1.67 goals-against average and a .940 saves percentage.
For the season, Carroll is 11-3-1 with the lowest GAA in the CHL at 1.81. The Oil City, Ontario native also owns a .937 SPCT (which is second in the league) with two shutouts, and hasn't surrendered more than two goals in a game since November 23rd. His streak of success also earned him the title of Sher-Wood CHL Goaltender of the Month for December, after he went 5-0 with a 1.20 GAA and a .964 saves percentage. Carroll is the CHL's All-time leader with 23 career shutouts and is the fifth winningest goaltender in league history.
Ken Carroll and the rest of the Mudbugs will be back in action for three games in three days in Youngstown against the SteelHounds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Before those games though, don't forget to check out the 2008 CHL All-star game from Broomfield, Colorado , featuring Mudbugs players John DeCaro and Daniel Pegoraro. The game will be shown live on the CHL Network, with opening faceoff set for 6:05 pm on Wednesday night.
