Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Rookie forward Ryan Manitowich scored the first three goals of his professional career and goaltender Ken Carroll stopped all 33 shots he faced to lead the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to a 3-0 win over the Fort Worth Brahmas Thursday night at the Century-Tel Center in Bossier City, Louisiana.

After a one hour delay to start the game because of transportation problems for the Brahmas, the Mudbugs jumped on Fort Worth in the first period of play. First, Bossier-Shreveport killed off back-to-back Brahmas power plays, including 30 seconds of a 5 on 3 advantage. After the successful penalty kill, the Mudbugs scored two goals just 40 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead. Manitowich banged in the rebound of a Wes Blevins shot at the 6:23 mark of the period to give Bossier a one goal lead. Then, on the next shift, Manitowich picked up a Brahmas turnover and carried the puck the length of the ice and finished off an odd man rush with a backhand flip shot over the glove of Brahmas goaltender Erasmo Saltarelli.

In the second period, Carroll continued to frustrate the Brahmas, stopping all 14 Fort Worth shots he saw in the frame. Carroll was the beneficiary of a crossbar and two posts that the Brahmas hit as well. First, Brahmas left wing pushed a rebound shot off of the crossbar at the midway point of the period. Moments later, Fort Worth forward Justin Williams deflected a shot past Carroll that caught the near post and stayed out. The lucky bounces inspired Carroll, and he made several spectacular saves in the waning moments of the period to keep the Brahmas off the board. Manitowich scored the only goal of the second for Bossier when he redirected a puck past Saltarelli at the 7:24 mark.

A motivated Brahmas team played a strong third period, but it was to no avail. Carroll came up big when he had to, making several saves off of close in chances from the Brahmas skaters. The Mudbugs went to to a defensive style of play, and rode Carroll the rest of the way for the win.

Saltarelli had another strong game in defeat for the Brahmas, stopping 28 of the 31 shots he faced. For Carroll, the 33 save effort was his second shutout of the season.

The loss drops the Brahmas record to 1-4-3 on the season. Fort Worth will try to get back on track tomorrow night, when they take on the Wichita Thunder at the Kansas Coliseum. Saturday night, the Brahmas will be back on home ice at the Fort Worth Convention Center for a rematch with the Mudbugs. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
