May 20, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
Francisco Carraballo drove in a run in three separate at-bats Sunday as the New Jersey Jackals defeated the Kansas City T-Bones 4-2. They improve to 3-1 on the young season.
Jackals' starter Jon Kibler allowed two runs on four hits in five-plus innings. Keith Cantwell did not give up a run in three innings, while Mike Zenko threw a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season. The Jackals' bullpen has not allowed a run in its last nine innings.
With the score 3-2 and a runner on third in the bottom of the fifth inning, catcher Chris Henderson flipped a wild pitch back to Keith Cantwell who applied the tag at home plate to T-Bones lead off hitter Sean Henry. The bang-bang play kept starter Jon Kibler on record for the win, which his bullpen secured.
Jon Kibler is now 1-0, while T-Bones' Matt Mitchell drops to 0-1.
The first-place Jackals take the three-hour bus ride to south Kansas. The Jackals begin a three-game series with the Wichita Wingnuts at 8:05ET Monday night. Kyle Greenwalt will make his first start of the year for the Jackals. The Winguts will counter with Ben Graham, making his return to Wichita after pitching for the Wingnuts back in 2010.
Notes
Jackals pitching struck out seven of the final ten T-Bones to come to the plate... T-Bones' Kala Ka'aihue, who's grand slam propelled the T-Bones over the Jackals on Friday, was put on the seven-day DL before today's game with an elbow injury... Jon Kibler had allowed only one hit, a Justin Bass bunt single, when he entered the fifth inning... Jackals pitching combined for ten strikeouts and no walks...
