Can-Am League Game Recaps
May 20, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Rockland 6, Quebec 4
RHP Julian Sampson's seven-inning, two-run performance helped Rockland earn its first win of the 2012 campaign over the Quebec Capitales. The two clubs traded long balls in the early going. In the bottom of the first, the Capitales delivered back-to-back solo home runs by CF Sebastien Boucher and 1B Rene Leveret. The Boulders countered, however, with a pair of solo home runs of their own. 1B Ryan Scoma hit one in the second, and an inning later, SS Matt Nandin tied the game with his solo homer. The game remained tied until the sixth, when Rockland put together a two-out rally. After LF Norm Hutchins singled, DH Scott Clement doubled him home. Rockland added one more in the inning on a Quebec error. The Boulders would put up two more runs the following inning, again taking advantage of a Capitales error. Sampson calmed down after giving up the early home runs. He only allowed three more hits over the rest of his seven innings to earn the win.Newark 9, Worcester 6The Bears used a five-run seventh inning to come from behind against the Worcester Tornadoes and improve to 3-1 on the season. Down 6-4 after six innings of play, Newark cut the deficit to one on an RBI single by CF Quentin Davis. Two batters later, Worcester intentionally walked Newark 1B Daryle Ward to load the bases for 3B Burt Reynolds. After a pitching change brought RHP Mike Mullen onto the hill, Reynolds delivered a two-run single. The hit gave the Bears a 7-6 lead and they added two more that inning on a pair bases loaded hit-by-pitches. RHP Matt Fitton picked up his second win of the year in relief, as the Bears prevailed 9-6.
