ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Carolina RailHawks overcame a one-goal first-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw with the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday night at Marina Auto Stadium.

Etienne Barbara scored the equalizing goal in the 54th minute. It was just the sixth time in club history that that RailHawks earned points in a match in which they conceded the first goal (0-30-6).

"We played well," said Carolina coach Martin Rennie. "I was bit disappointed we went down a goal because we were playing quite well up to that point. I thought we deserved an equalizer, and I'm glad we were able to eventually get it. For our first away game, and playing against a team in its home opener that came in with a lot of confidence, it's a good result for us. It's a long season, so we're happy with how we're starting it."

Saturday's draw also extended two streaks for the Carolina. They're now unbeaten in their last four matches against Rochester (2-0-2) and they are unbeaten in their last four trips to Marina Auto Stadium (1-0-3).

The RailHawks (1-1-1) dug themselves an early hole Saturday night. Rochester's Troy Roberts punched in a corner kick in the ninth minute to give the Rhinos (2-1-2) the lead.

After a quiet first half on the attack, Carolina came out in the second half and went right after the equalizer. The RailHawks earned the game-changing PK following a Floyd Franks-led counter attack. Franks carried the ball into the Rhinos' end, and as a he approached the penalty area, he laid the ball off to Sallieu Bundu. Bundu raced into the area and was pulled down near the six-yard box by Rochester defender Frankie Sanfilippo.

Barbara stepped to the spot and easily converted the try. It's his third goal of the season and it snapped a scoreless streak for the RailHawks that had quietly reached 209 minutes.

The RailHawks will hit the road again next weekend, when they will face Miami at Lockhart Stadium in south Florida on Saturday, May 8. They return to WakeMed Soccer Park on Friday, May 14, when they will meet the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Tickets are on sale for that match at www.carolinarailhawks.com or by calling the LGFCU Box Office at 919-859-5425.
