
Carolina RailHawks Announce 2016 Team Awards

Cary N.C. (October 22, 2016)- The Carolina RailHawks are pleased to announce the Team Awards for the 2016 NASL Season. The following award recipients were voted upon by all RailHawks players and coaches.
Defensive Player of the Year: Brian Sylvestre
Carolina's starting goalkeeper has played 18 games and logged 1,620 minutes this season. With a 75 percent save to shot ratio, the 23-year-old has earned five clean sheets and made 62 saves. Sylvestre is also a nominee for the NASL Young Player of the Year Award for his outstanding performance this season.
Leadership Award: Austin da Luz
In his fifth season with the club, da Luz has shown incredible leadership both on and off the field. The former Demon Deacon has scored five goals this season and started 24 out of 28 games played, logging 2,177 minutes. He was named the NASL Player of the Month in April after scoring three goals in the first two games of 2016.
WakeMed Unsung Hero Award: Steven Miller
After being sidelined in March due to a head injury, Miller showed incredible determination to return to the field. On July 9, Miller subbed in to the game against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Since then, he has started in 12 games, scoring one goal and earning one assist. He was named to the NASL Team of the Week twice since coming back from injury.
Offensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player: Nazmi Albadawi
Captain Nazmi Albadawi started in 27 games and has played the most minutes on the team this season with 2,357. The Raleigh native now holds the NASL record for most assists in a single season after he made his 10th assist on October 9 against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. As a center midfielder, Albadawi has scored three goals in 44 shots. He is currently second in the league in chances created with 47 and has a passing accuracy of 80.8 percent. Albadawi is also a nominee for the 2016 NASL Golden Ball Award (MVP).
Summit Hospitality Community Service Awards: Connor Tobin, Nazmi Albadawi, Steven Miller
Tobin, Albadawi and Miller have logged the most community appearance hours on the team this year. Each showed a genuine interest in developing youth players and promoting the RailHawks brand in the community.
