Miami FC News Release
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2016)Â - The Miami FC faced off against the New York Cosmos, Saturday night, in the final road fixture of the 2016 season.
The first half would see the Cosmos build an early lead as the Orange and Blue looked to work their way into the match.
Jairo Arrieta opened up the scoring for New York in the second minute with a header. Yohandry Orozco doubled the lead five minutes later, putting the Miami FC down 2-0.
The Club responded well, working deep into Cosmos territory early in the first half. The Orange and Blue earned two dangerous free kicks before the 25 minute mark and came close to converting on both.
Unfortunately, New York would add two more goals to the score sheet before the half, as the Miami FC went into the locker room down 4-0.
The second half was much more competitive as the Miami FC's offense started to click.
The Orange and Blue's best chance of the night came in the 57th minute when a Jaime Chavez attempt forced New York keeper Brian Holt to make a great save.
The service from the left side was strong in the second half as Blake Smith and Jonny Steele made strong runs throughout the night, and even stronger passes into the box.
Chavez also continued to have a strong second half, getting into dangerous position and putting a few shots on goal.
Vincenzo Rennella nearly scored his fourth goal of the season in extra time but a great save and the offside flag kept the Miami FC off the board.
The Miami FC would continue to push for a goal but the 4-0 score would hold, as the Club returns home to close its inaugural season against FC Edmonton.
