Match Preview:

The Carolina RailHawks (8W-6D-10L; 30 pts; 10th place) host FC Edmonton (12W-7D-5L; 43 pts; 2nd place) Saturday night at WakeMed Soccer Park at 7:30 p.m. ET. While this is the third meeting between the two teams in 2016, it is the first time the RailHawks have hosted the Eddies this season. Carolina has dropped a close decision to FC Edmonton on both previous occasions this year. On May 22, Daryl Fordyce netted a late penalty kick in the 79th minute to help his team sneak by with three points at Clarke Stadium. The second meeting had the same result as Jake Keegan scored a second half goal to beat out the RailHawks 1-0 yet again. While FC Edmonton sits in second place in the combined standings, the Eddies have scored just 20 goals this season compared to Carolina's 29.

Last Time Out:

Carolina is coming off of a tough road trip in Florida, where they fell 1-0 to both Miami FC on September 14 and the Tampa Bay Rowdies three days later. Despite the losses, RailHawks keeper Brian Sylvestre has had consistent standout performances. He has allowed two goals but has made 14 saves in the last four games played, putting him in the top 10 in the league in saves. The RailHawks have not lost at home since May 7 and look to extend their home unbeaten streak to nine games tonight.

Go Gold Month For Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month

Saturday is the official Go Gold Night with the Carolina RailHawks. The RailHawks are going gold for pediatric cancer awareness this month. The club will be raising money for a pediatric cancer-specific grant with the American Cancer Society alongside seven other NASL teams. For more information on the movement, click here. Players to Watch: Battle of the Keepers

#92 Brian Sylvestre

The six-foot-four keeper has allowed three goals in the last four games, making 14 saves along the way. He has played 12 games this season and saved 75.9 percent of shots faced.

#1 Matt VanOekel

VanOekel is the league-leader in saves with 82 and second in clean sheets with 13. He was named the NASL Player of the Month for August for his outstanding efforts. The 29-year-old has led his team to an impressive 12W-7D-5L record, and FC Edmonton has conceded the least amount of goals in the league.

Coming Up Next:

The New York Cosmos (15W-4D-6L; 49 pts; 1st place) come to Cary on Wednesday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on WRAL2, TWC SportsChannel and ONE World Sports.
