Carolina Mudcats News Release
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - The Carolina Mudcats (12-3) would not have enough time to try and pull out another comeback Sunday afternoon at SRP Park as the Augusta GreenJackets (7-8) took home a 3-1 win after the game was called in the sixth inning due to weather. Carolina still ends the week winning four out of six on the road and have won all three series to start the 2024 season.
Yorman Galindez was terrific in his third start of the year for the Mudcats. The righty went four scoreless innings allowing zero hits and one walk while striking out seven batters. Galindez lowered his season earned run average to 1.93 in the effort.
Carolina briefly took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth after a throwing error by GreenJackets catcher Jacob Godman. However, Augusta responded in the bottom half with three runs against Mudcats lefty Osbriel Mogollon (L, 1-1). Joe Olsavsky plated a pair of runs on a double before he scored on an RBI single by Luis Sanchez.
Ultimately, Carolina was held scoreless in the top of the sixth and the game was called with one out in the bottom half. GreenJackets starter Riley Frey (W, 1-0) received the win after going five innings while reliever Luis Vargas (SV, 1) earned a save for getting the final three outs.
The Mudcats will be back in action on Tuesday night at Five County Stadium as they get ready to host the Salem Red Sox for six games next week. Carolina swept the Red Sox in a three-game series to open the season earlier this month. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
