Amarillo Bulls News Release
Blaine, MN - Noah Carlin's overtime goal sealed the deal for the Amarillo Bulls' second straight win, as the team topped the Minot Minotauros 2-1 at the 2019 NAHL Showcase.
The Bulls wasted no time finding the back of the net, as Matt Allen sniped the puck past Minot goalie Ben Garrity for the 1-0 lead just 11 seconds into the first period.
Max Gutjahr, making his Bulls debut in goal, denied multiple Minot chances in the opening period to preserve the 1-0 lead into the intermission.
In the second period, after fending off a number of Bulls attacks, Minot would find an answer when Isak Dahlin found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
The deadlock would hold into the intermission and would see the two team play a physical and fast-paced third period with a number of chances for both sides.
After a Minot shot rang off the crossbar and a number of prime scoring chances for the Bulls were denied, regulation time would not be enough to separate the two sides.
It took three of the five overtime minutes for the game to be decided, when Carlin found the puck on his stick on a breakaway at the Minot goal. After fighting off a back-check, Carlin, while falling, slid the puck between the legs of Garrity to capture the victory for the Bulls.
"An overtime winner is a great way to win a hockey game," said Bulls Coach Rocky Russo. "We would love to put more pucks in the net, but we played well and got the win, so we are happy."
The Bulls have now won back-to-back games after drop their opening game of the season to Topeka.
With the win, the Bulls finish their official games at the NAHL Showcase with a 2-0 record. The team will have an off day on Friday, before playing the National Team Development Program at 7:00 PM CST on Saturday night on 107.1 Nash Icon and HockeyTV.
