Cards take series from Jammers

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (16-16) downed the Jamestown Jammers (12-22), 5-2, to take a 2-1 series win. Chris Della Rocco (1-1) picked up the win for the Cardinals, and Brian Hoff (0-3) took the loss for the Jammers. Cory Doyne worked the final three outs to collect his 5th save of the season.

The Cards jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Jake Mullinax RBI single in the 1st and a Brady Toops groundball double play in the 4th. After the Jammers tied the score at 2 in the top of the 6th, the Cards came right back in the Rally Cow inning to take a 3-2 lead. Mike Ferris led off with a walk and later came around to score when Matt Shepherd grounded out to short. Then, in the bottom of the 8th, the Cards added two insurance runs. Chris Patrick doubled, Toops walked and then Shepherd walked to load the bases. Sean Dobson plated the first run when drew another walk and then Steve Sherman knocked in the second with a groundout to first base.

On the night, Sean Dobson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Chris Patrick was 3-for-4 to lead the offense. Della Rocco pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs to pick up the win. Jackson Paz worked a scoreless 1.2 innings and Doyne a perfect 9th to continue stellar pitching by the Cardinals bullpen.

The Cards continue their five-game home stand tomorrow night at 7:15 pm when they open a two-game set with the Williamsport Crosscutters (Pittsburgh Pirates). Friday night is fireworks night courtesy of Condit Toyota and The Star Ledger. Saturday night, Franklin Sussex Auto Mall and the New Jersey Herald sponsor a Monster Truck Crush, it is Knights of Columbus night, and post-game is Family Catch on the Field and Girl Scout Sleepover Night.
