New Jersey Cardinals News Release
This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) rolled over the Williamsport Crosscutters (Pittsburgh Pirates) by score of 7-3. After the game was delay nearly 1 hour and 45 minutes by heavy rain, New Jersey (32-28) starter Donnie Smith (2-2) turned in a solid outing to earn the win. Matt Guillory (5-5) suffered the loss for Williamsport (27-32).
Levi Webber continued his hot hitting for the Cardinals, going 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored while popping his 5th home run in the last 14 games. He is batting .333 (16-for-48) since August 15. Sam Herbert, Steve Sherman and Casey Grimm all chipped in two hits as every batter in the Cards lineup recorded at least one hit.
The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow night when they take on the first-place Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets) at Skylands Park at 5:00 pm in the opener of a series ripe with playoff implications. After their loss to the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees) tonight, the Cyclones lead the Cardinals by just 2.0 games. Hudson Valley, who was in second place of the McNamara Division and leading the wild card race, was rained out tonight and now sits only 0.5 games ahead of the Cards in the wild card standings.
For tomorrows game, Phils Ford sponsors a baseball giveaway and post-game is Family Catch on the Field. Sunday the Cardinals travel to Brooklyn, and Monday the two teams return to Skylands Park for their final meeting of the season. KFC and the New Jersey Herald sponsor Kids Eat Free.
