Cardinals Win in 10 Innings

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) defeated the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees) 10-9 by scoring a run in the bottom of the tenth inning. With the win the Cardinals improve to 6-12, and Staten Island drops to 5-13. Roberto Batista picked up the win for the Cardinals to move to 2-0 pitching 2.1 innings allowing no runs on no hits and one walk. Paul Thorp took the loss for the Yankees to fall to 0-1 on the season.

Daylon Monette tied a New Jersey Cardinal record with two sacrifice flies in one game. Monette went 2-2 on the day with two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs. Melvin Falu hit a two-run homerun to left field in the bottom of the second inning for the Cardinals. In the bottom of the tenth inning with the score tied 9-9, Joe Mather hit a one out double. Casey Grimm advanced Mather to third on a single following a Omar Pena popout. With two outs, Zack Smithlin hit a game winning single to left field to score Mather.

The Cardinals will take on the Staten Island Yankees tomorrow in Augusta, New Jersey. There will be a ThunerStix giveaway tomorrow courtesy of Pepsi, The Pizza Place, Bon Appetite, and Hainesville Sporting Goods. There will also be a Bat Raffle sponsored by Miller Lite and an appearance by Spiderman. Following the game, fans will be able to race around the bases sponsored by Pepsi.
