Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
BURLINGTON, VT --- The Vermont Expos losing streak hit 12 games on Friday with a record-setting 19-2 loss at Oneonta, leaving Vermont General Manager C.J. Knudsen sleeping in the Vermont dugout at Centennial Field for the seventh straight night.
Beginning with Vermont's fifth straight defeat, a 5-2 loss to Tri-City at Centennial on June 28th, Knudsen has slept in the Expos dugout. He promised to sleep in the dugout until the Expos won another game, but Vermont lost all five games of a homestand to Tri-City, then got swept in a two-game series at Oneonta on July 3rd and 4th.
The 19-2 loss on Friday to Oneonta marked the most runs and hits (19) that Vermont has ever allowed in a game during the franchise's 10-year history. The 12-game losing streak, second-longest in team history (lost 14 straight in 2001), dropped the Expos overall record to 1-17.
While Knudsen has been sleeping in the dugout for seven straight nights, he hasn't been along. Other members of the Vermont front office have joined in the "Slumper Party" throughout the week.
Director of Ticket Operations Nate Cloutier has been in the dugout the last six nights, Director of Public Relations Adrienne Wilson the last five nights, Director of Sales Shawn Quinn three nights and Assistant General Manager Mike Simpson one night.
And now that the Expos have run out of front office staff, summer interns are starting to spend the night in the dugout. Intern Alex Grosby has been there the past two nights and intern Charlie Bazdanes joined the party last night.
"We've got 10 interns for the summer, but hopefully we won't have to go through them all," Wilson said. "The dugouts a little small, so some of us are sleeping in tents on top of and in front of the dugout.
The Expos open a six-game homestand with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Saturday night at Centennial. At game's end, either the dugout will be empty because of a Vermont win or another intern will be attending the "Slumper Party".
