Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals overcame numerous miscues on the field to come away with their second consecutive walk-off victory, dropping the Jupiter Hammerheads, 5-4, at Roger Dean Stadium.

Jupiter closer Harvey Garcia (0-7) picked up the loss for a second straight night, as defensive replacement Dominick Ambrosini was unable to make a diving catch on a Randy Roth ball down the right-field line, scoring Juan Lucena.

The game started off well for Jupiter in the first inning, as the Cardinals committed three errors helping the Hammerheads score four runs off of starter Mitchell Boggs. Geoff McCallum led-off the game by reaching on a Mike Ferris throwing error, after Ferris had initially made a fantastic diving stop to his right. Two batters later, Gaby Sanchez singled to left-field and McCallum would end up scoring as left-fielder Sean Danielson failed to throw the ball into the infield. The final error came after a J.T. Restko RBI single up the middle, as Colby Rasmus launched the ball over catcher Matt Pagnozzi, allowing Restko to advance to second.

Boggs held Jupiter in check over the next five innings, allowing no earned runs, walking three and striking out six. He has allowed just three earned runs in 26 innings of work against the Hammerheads on the season.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth, the Cardinals received a jump start, as shortstop Geoff McCallum allowed Juan Lucena to reach base on a fielding error. Colby Rasmus followed with a single up the middle and two batters latter, Joe Mather doubled to left-centerfield, scoring both runners. Rayner Laya drove in Mather for the game-tying run with a single up the middle.

Relievers Zach Zuercher and Brian Stitt combined to pitch three scoreless innings. Stitt (4-1) ends up with the victory retiring the only batter he faced, J.T. Restko, with a strike out.
