Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Vero Beach, FL) - Amaury Marti drove in three runs and scored three times to help the Palm Beach Cardinals to a 13-1 drubbing of the Vero Beach Dodgers Thursday night at Holman Stadium. Cory Dunlap hit his 8th home run in a losing cause for Vero Beach. The series ends Friday night with a 7:00 PM game at Holman Stadium.

Dunlap's home run came with two outs in the 1st to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. The tide very quickly turned in the 2nd when a walk, an error and an infield single tied the score. Palm Beach went ahead the next inning thanks to Matt Dryer's two-run homer. Marti followed with a home run of his own to put the Cards ahead 4-1.

The Cardinals scored again the 4th and 5th for a 6-1 lead before they erupted in the 6th. Rayner Laya led off with his third hit of a four-hit night. He stole second and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning Marti doubled in two more runs. Joe Mather followed him with another double to make it 10-1. The inning continued when Mike Ferris reached on an error that scored another run. Ferris also came home when Matt Pagnozzi reached base on a misplayed fly ball for the Dodgers' fifth error of the game.

Vero infielder Adolfo Gonzalez pitched the 9th inning. After retiring his first two batters, including a strikeout, Ryan Barthelemy clubbed a home run to finish the Cardinals 13-1 shellacking of the Dodgers.

Mitchell Boggs (7-3) turned in six innings of one-hit ball. He retired the final 11 batters he faced to earn the win. Matt Scherer and Mike Sillman shut out the Dodgers over the final three innings.

Drew Locke went 2-3 for the Dodgers. He had the only two hits outside of Dunlap's homer. Vero fell to 5-9 in the Second Half while Palm Beach improved to 6-8.
