
Cardinals Fall to Yankees, Series Even

JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Johnson City Cardinals were defeated by the Pulaski Yankees on Sunday night 5-4. With the win, the Yankees managed to even the series at one game apiece.
Noel De Jesus got the start for the Cardinals, his fourth of the season. De Jesus pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four hits, four runs (one earned), two walks, and six strikeouts.
The Cardinals struck first with three runs in the bottom of the second. Dariel Gomez hit a two-run homerun (5). Michael Perri followed up Gomez's homerun, with a solo shot of his own, two batters later and that was his second of the season. At the end of the second inning, the Cardinals had a 3-0 lead.
The Yankees did not go away and fought back to put four runs on the board to take a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth. The Cardinals then put one more on the board in the eighth, when Zach Jackson hit a solo homerun (1) to tie the game at four.
The Yankees managed to put one more in the ninth and that is where the score would stay, Pulaski: 5 | Johnson City: 4.
The Cardinals used two relievers, Mike Brettell and David Oca. Brettell pitched 2.1 innings, gave up one hit, and had five strikeouts. Oca took the loss (2), he pitched two innings, gave up three hits, one earned run, and had two strikeouts.
After the finale against Pulaski tomorrow, the Cardinals stay home for a four-game homestand against the Elizabethton Twins.
