Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - The Arkansas Travelers' defeated the Cardinals tonight 6-1 on a complete game effort by starter Ariel Pena.

Casey Haerther led Arkansas' offense with two two-run home runs. He hit these in the sixth and eighth innings. Jean Segura also had a solid offense day batting three for five with two runs scored.

Pena (4-4) dominated the Cardinals' offense by only giving up one run on seven hits. Springfield attempted to score in the ninth inning by putting two on base with one out, but Pena recorded a double play ending the game.

Fresh off a trip to the disabled list, Jose Garcia collected Springfield's only run on a home run to left field on the first pitch he saw from Pena.

Trevor Rosenthal (5-6) left the ballgame after pitching six innings. He gave up four runs on eight hits for Springfield.

The Cardinals defense accomplished a feat they had never completed before in franchise history by recording a triple play. It began during the fifth inning with runners on first and second base and Ryan Mount batting. Greg Garcia recorded the first out on a great over-the-shoulder catch in the grass behind the shortstop position. Garcia then threw to Kolten Wong for the second out as Jean Segura was in between second and third base. Wong then attempted to get the final out at first base, but the throw went past Chris Swauger's glove. Luckily for Springfield, catcher Travis Tartamella backed up first base and threw the ball to Wong at second base as he tagged the runner trying to advance for the third and final out.

Springfield will begin a four-game series with the NW Arkansas Naturals tomorrow night at 7:08pm. The Cardinals will send Richard Castillo to the mound against Michael Mariot of the Naturals. Every Thursday is Johnsonville "Buck a Brat" Night featuring $1 Johnsonville bratwurst all night long.
