
Cardinals Drop Both Ends of Doubleheader to Renegades

Today at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays) defeated the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) twice. New Jersey drops to 18-30 for the year and Hudson Valley improves to 28-20 in the McNamara Division.
With a 7-0 win in the first game 26th round pick Joe Little acquired his 3rd win in three Renegadesappearances. He threw five scoreless frames, yielding four hits and four walks with three punchouts along the way. Cardinal Dave Williamson (0-3) lost by allowing four runs on two hits and five walks. Derek Roper warranted one lone run in three strong innings for New Jersey.
New Jersey and Hudson Valley coordinated a hit fest in game two. Together the teams pounded out 29 knocks, 16 by the Renegades and 13 by the Cardinals. Serious New Jersey threatening late was squelched by Valley pitcher Andrew Weimer. Three runs scored in the 6th for the Cardinals. Casey Grimm doubled off the wall to begin the inning, before scoring Fernando Puebla throwing error. The other two Cardinal runs were driven home by Joe Mather and Brendan Ryan. Kevin Estrada singled to begin a four-run rally in the 7th inning. He later scored on a passed ball. With the score 11-6, Kainoa Obrey walked. Jose Virgils groudout drove in Casey Grimm, who reached on a single. Billy Schmitts double helped Obrey reach home, and Daylon Monette singled in Schmitt. With the game teetering in the balance, Andrew Weimer recorded the final out on a Chris Tuttle groundout. The victorious Hudson Valley plated 11 runs, while New Jersey scored eight. Dennis Dove lost the game to fall to 1-3 in 2003. Winner Aaron Gangi is now 3-1 and tied with a team lead nine games started. In the 2nd inning, Renegade Josh Kendrick blasted his fourth homerun of the season.
The Cardinals final home game of the week is tomorrow night. They host the Staten Island Yankees at 7:15 PM before heading out on a four-game road trip to Staten Island and Tri-City. A Blues Clues impersonator will return to the Sky for a second appearance of the summer.
