Cardinals Defeat Marauders In Pitcher's Duel

Bradenton, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (15-8) beat the Bradenton Marauders (14-10) tonight at Roger Dean Stadium by a score of 1-0. Alex Castellanos' home run in the third inning off of Nathan Adcock (3-2) proved to be the deciding run. The right-fielder finished 2-for-3. Domnit Bolivar and Tony Cruz accounted for the only other two Cardinals' hits.

Starter Mark Diapoules (3-0) threw a gem to lead Palm Beach to their fifth straight win. The right-hander threw five hitless innings and struck out four in his first start of the season. The bullpen tacked on four scoreless innings and Casey Mulligan collected his sixth save. Mulligan struck out Tony Sanchez with the tying run at second base to end the game.

Bradenton starter Nathan Adcock struck out eight Cardinals over seven innings of work.

Palm Beach extended their division lead over Bradenton to one ½ games. The two teams will be in action tomorrow at Roger Dean Stadium in game two of this three-game series. Arquimedes Nieto is slated to take the mound for the Cardinals and will look to extend the winning streak to six games. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
