New Jersey Cardinals News Release

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) defeated the Lowell Spinners for the second time in as many nights. New Jersey improved to 24-34 as the Spinners fell to 31-24. Derek Roper (2-3) acquired his first win since June 30th, while Jose Vaquedano (6-2) absorbed the loss for Lowell. Roper threw six innings, allowing two hits and no runs. The bullpen of Juan Morales and Jason Galbraith maintained Ropers shutout bid. In the process Galbraith picked up his second save of the year.

Casey Grimm hit his first homerun of the season in the fourth inning to give the Cardinals a two run cushion. He drove in Omar Pena after reaching on a single, and moving to second base via a Kevin Estrada sacrifice bunt. New Jersey scored the final run of the game on back-to-back extra base hits. First Estrada drove a ball to leftfield for a double, and then Brendan Ryan hit a triple to bring him in. The scoring was finished for the night at 3-0.

Casey Grimm hit his first professional homerun as he went 1-3. Juan Morales pitched two scoreless, hitless, walkless innings to continue an impressive streak. He has not allowed an earned run in 10 games, a run in 6 games, or a hit in 4 games. No batters have walked in 3 games.

The Cardinals continue their homestand tomorrow against the Lowell Spinners at 5:00 p.m. The postponed Ivy Mortgage and New Jersey Herald Seat Cushion Giveaway will take place Sunday. Tomorrow night Miller Lite is bringing another bat raffle to the park. As per usual for Sundays, there is a Pepsi Cola Race Around the Bases after the game.
