
Contreras sharp in rehab start, but Staten Island falls 6-3

[Staten Island, NY] - The Yankees had a 3-0 shutout heading into the top of the ninth, but the bullpen couldnt hold on to the lead as the Yankees fell 6-3 to the Jamestown Jammers. Jose Contreras look sharp in his second rehab start, going seven innings giving up no runs on two hits, striking out 15. The Yankees scored once in the second on a single by John Urick, brining in Nick Covarrubias who was hit by a pitch. They plated two more in the fifth when Melky Cabrera singled in Jared Treadway and Enrique Cruz drove in Dave Slevin. Staten Island held the lead into the ninth. After a leadoff walk by Chris Theodorf, Paul Thorp got the next two batters to ground into fielder's choices. With two outs, he gave up a single to Pablo Sosa, advancing Dusty Young to second. Young scored on a single by Ryan Bear and the score was tied on a double by Ben Schroder. The Yankees went down in order in the ninth and threatened in the tenth. However, the Jammers put up three runs in the eleventh inning, aided by two Yankee errors, and pulling ahead 6-3. This was the first time this season the Yankees failed to win a game when leading after eight innings. They now move to 18-1 when leading after eight. The two teams will conclude their three-game series Sunday at 5:15 p.m.
