Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Batavia, NY - When it rains, it pours. There was no rain during the game on Friday night in Batavia, but the Muckdog bats rained fire on the Vermont Expos, exploding for 12 runs en route to a 12-1 victory.
The Muckdogs wasted no time in jumping on Vermont starter Nick Long, scoring two runs in the first inning, led by a Javon Moran single and a double by Jack Headley. Jake Blalock also knocked in a run in the first.
The true Muckdogs outburst would come in the third inning, when Batavia put together a six run frame. Tim Moss singled, Bryan Hansen reached base on a botched fielder's choice, and Jake Blalock walked. With the bases loaded, Nick Long hit Kiel Fisher to score Moran and then walked Joe Brunink to score Moss. Jack Headley then ripped a double to right field, clearing the bases. Esteban De Los Santos singled to center, scoring Headley to complete the scoring; for the inning at least.
Batavia would be held scoreless until the eighth inning, and then again the floodgates opened. Catcher Jeury Diaz walked, as did Omar Bramasco. Javon Moran was then walked, and the scene was set yet again with the bases loaded. Bryan Hansen came up and slapped a triple down the right field line to clear the bases. J.D. Foust's sac fly to center field would plate Hansen.
In amassing 12 runs, several Muckdogs produced at the plate. Moss, Hansen, Headley, and De Los Santos all drove in two runs, and all but one Muckdogs starter had at least one hit in the contest.
It would be easy to forget about pitching, however the staff was impressive as well. Justin Libey gave up five hits in six innings of work, and Darin Naatjes, returning from a rehab stint threw one inning of relief. C.J. Woodrow worked the eighth and ninth innings, to close out the game.
Batavia is home again on Saturday, it's WBTA day at Dwyer Stadium, a special game time of 1:05pm has been set.
