Springfield Cardinals News Release
The Cardinals Caravan will make its annual trip to Springfield on Friday, January 16th. For the second straight year, the Caravan will be held at Drury University's Weiser Gym and is slated to kick off at 7pm.
Three former Springfield Cardinals will headline the event, including right-handed reliever Kyle McClellan, who was a staple in the St. Louis bullpen in 2008 after pitching for Springfield in 2007. Highly-touted outfielder Colby Rasmus, a member of the 2007 Springfield Cardinals, will also be part of this year's group, as will right-hander Jess Todd, who spent the better-part of 2008 in the Springfield rotation.
Major League right-hander Brad Thompson will be the other current player headed to Springfield.
Also on hand will be former pitcher and current broadcaster Rick Horton, former third baseman Ken Reitz and former pitcher Ken Dayley. Broadcaster Jay Randolph will emcee this year's festivities.
Doors will open for the 2009 Cardinals Caravan at 6:30pm, with the event scheduled to begin at 7pm. Admission for the Cardinals Caravan is $5 for adults and $3 for kids (ages 3-12). Autographs are free for kids ages 12 and under. All proceeds will benefit the Children's Miracle Network.
In addition to appearing at Weiser Gym during the evening, the caravan will also visit Cox South and St. John's Hospital earlier in the day. The caravan will stop by both hospitals, beginning at approximately 1:30pm to visit the pediatric ward and other areas.
