
Cardinals almost sweep Scrappers

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) lost to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 5-1 and missed an opportunity to sweep the Pinckney Division team. The Cardinals fall to 22-34 on the season as the Scrappers are now 27-30. These two teams will not play again this season. For the second time in two days a lengthy Cardinals hitting streak ended. Wednesday Kevin Estrada failed to continue his 11_game run, and tonight Brendan Ryan concluded his 10-game streak. Josh Brey (2-3) lost for the Cardinals, while Matt Davis (4-3) acquired the win for Mahoning Valley. Brey pitched 4.1 innings allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs. He also struck out 5 along with 2 walks.
The Cardinals scored their run in the fourth inning after Casey Grimms one-out single put him on base. Daylon Monettes fielders choice erased Grimm before Kainoa Obrey singled and Jose Virgil drove in Monette. Casey Grimm led the way with two singles. Kevin Kouzmanoff hit his second first inning homerun of the series tonight. He now stands with six round trippers on the campaign.
The Cardinals continue their homestand tomorrow against the Lowell Spinners at 7:15 p.m. It will be a favorite, Fireworks Night at Skylands Park courtesy of Condit Toyota World and Condit Ford Lincoln Mercury World. Miller Lite brings the fans a third bat raffle of the year tomorrow evening.
