Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Northwest Arkansas combination of *RHP Yender Caramo* with 8.0 scoreless innings and *Corey Toups*, whom went 3-for-4 with a home run proved to be too much for San Antonio as the Naturals (28-27, 57-68) defeated the Missions (29-26, 51-74) on Saturday night, 5-2. The series is now even at a game a piece with the rubber match tomorrow.
Making just his seventh start of the season for Northwest Arkansas, Caramo (W, 4-7) was dominant for the Naturals on Saturday night. The Venezuelan right-hander allowed only three hits in 8.0 scoreless innings to go along with five strikeouts. The Naturals Pitcher of the Month for both June and July recorded his longest outing of 2016 and lowered his ERA to 2.64.
Locked in a scoreless game in the sixth, Toups delivered an all-important blow to the Missions and starter *RHP Dinelson Lamet (L, 5-7)*. The Naturals lead-off hitter took a 3-1 pitch and drove it over the wall in left for a solo home run and a 1-0 lead. The home run was his eighth of the year and he has 35 RBI on the season. The run broke a 17.0 inning scoreless streak for Lamet.
Northwest Arkansas would take charge of the game in the seventh as they would send eight batters to the plate and put up three runs in the frame. *Terrance Gore* had a RBI on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt, *Alfredo Escalera* doubled home a run, and *Frank Schwindel* brought in the final tally in with a sacrifice fly. In the eighth, the Naturals would add an extra insurance run as *Zane Evans* doubled to start the frame then advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 advantage.
The Naturals offense came to life and collected eight hits on the night with Toups leading the way with his 3-for-4 effort. Escalera and Evans also had multi-hit games while Logan Moon registered his 19th double of the year on his lone hit.
The Missions would manage to put a couple of runs on the board in the ninth but that was all as the Naturals take Game 2 of this three game series by a 5-2 final. With the rest of the Texas League results still pending on Saturday, Northwest Arkansas is guaranteed at least a 1.0 game lead in the Texas League North Division when they enter the series finale Sunday afternoon.
