September 9, 2009 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lake County Captains News Release
The Lake County Captains and the Cleveland Indians have announced that they have signed an extension to their player development contract which will retain the Captains as an Indians affiliate through the 2014 season.
The franchise has been associated with the Indians since they were in Columbus, Georgia in 1991. They were the Columbus Indians in 1991, the Columbus Red Stixx from 1992 through 2002 and moved to Eastlake to become the Captains in 2003.
"We are very pleased to continue our association with the Tribe as we prepare to enter the Midwest League in 2010. It has been a terrific partnership and we look forward to continuing it for many years to come", Captains Vice President and General Manager Brad Seymour stated. "It is great for the fans of the Indians to be able to see the players at our level and then follow them to the big leagues."
The Captains have had 19 former players go on to play at the Major League level, including Fausto Carmona, Aaron Laffey, Rafael Perez and Trevor Crowe. In 2010, the Captains will enter the Midwest League after spending its first seven years as a member of the South Atlantic League. The move will improve travel conditions for the team and further establishes Eastlake and Classic Park as a premier environment to develop future Major League players.
The Captains will open its 70-game home schedule in Eastlake on Thursday, April 8 at 6:30 PM versus the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. Discounted full season tickets plans, 12-, 20-, and 35-game mini ticket plans for the 2010 season are on sale now and information can be found at the Captains website www.captainsbaseball.com.
The Lake County Captains are a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians and play their home games at Classic Park in Eastlake, at the corners of State Route 91 and Vine Street. For more information on the Captains, please visit the team's official website at www.captainsbaseball.com.
