Regina Pats News Release
REGINA - Veteran Regina Pat forward Logan Nijhoff has been named the Mike Kartusch Community Service Award winner for the 2020-21 season.
Nijhoff's award win was announced Thursday, as the club continues its year-end awards campaign.
The Pats captain earns the honour after finding ways to be involved in the Queen City despite the hurdles presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Nijhoff is a player ambassador for Hockey Gives Blood, which is an organization that has partnered with Canadian Blood Services to engage and educate the hockey community about the importance of blood and stem cell donation.
The Comox Valley, B.C. product ran a successful blood drive in December 2020, resulting in more than 100 people donating blood in the Queen City.
For a second consecutive season, Nijhoff was part of the Conexus Financial Literacy program. Along with assistant captain Kyle Walker and staff from Conexus Credit Union, Nijhoff helped deliver financial literacy programming virtually to elementary school classes while inside the Subway WHL Hub.
"Logan is committed to being a leader in every aspect of life," said Pats head coach Dave Struch. "There's a reason why he's our captain and there's a reason he's going to be our captain moving forward. He's an extension of us as coaches, but he really does take on major responsibilities in his life and it shows when he gets involved in things outside of the game of hockey inside the community."
"A lot of the stuff that he did this year during the pandemic he initiated on his own, so those are things that are important to him and I think he's going to be very successful moving forward."
On the ice this season, Nijhoff suited up in all 24 regular season games, registering 10 goals and seven assists to finish fourth in team scoring.
The remaining Pats 2020-21 season awards will be released as follows:
