Captain Jamieson is Back

August 5, 2020 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Halifax Thunderbirds News Release

Halifax, NS - The Thunderbirds announced today that they have signed Thunderbirds Captain Cody Jamieson to a one-year agreement. He recently became an unrestricted free agent this past offseason for the first time in his professional career. Jamieson chose to return back to the Thunderbirds after signing the longest contract in NLL history back in 2010 in his rookie campaign.

"For me it's always been about family," said Jamieson. "My teammates, the coaches and staff are an extension of my family, and we've worked so hard to get to where we are. I couldn't imagine leaving after all the years we've spent together building something special. We are focused on bringing an NLL title to Halifax, together."

This past season the lefty completed his tenth season in the NLL and tenth with the franchise. He led the team in points in the 2020 season with 59 (26+33). Jamieson also is third all-time in team history in goals (281), second in assists (482) and third in points (763).

"We've had the pleasure of having Cody for the past 10 years as a key part of our team and organization," said Owner and General Manager Curt Styres. "As this year's top UFA his play on the floor is equally matched by his leadership in the locker room. We are honored to have Cody back to guide our young players and allow our veterans to flourish."

"The love and passion Cody has for the game is undeniable and his presence resonates all the way from his teammates to the fans," said Styres. "He has the ability to make every fan feel like they are the only one in the room and being in a new market he has been instrumental in growing the game of lacrosse in Halifax. Welcome back Cody, let's get down to our unfinished business!"

The Six Nations, Ontario native has accumulated 763 regular season points, 108 of which coming in an MVP season in 2014, capping off an improbable three-peat run. His 85 points in 18 postseason games speak volumes to his ability to show up in big moments, as any Syracuse Orange fan would tell you. His game winning goal in the 2009 NCAA National Championship secured the Orange their 11th title, in one of the most thrilling finishes in championship game history.

"Cody is the lifeblood of this franchise," said Head Coach Mike Accursi. "He has done it all in the NLL. He's won championships, MVP, and been on countless all pro teams. He is a guy we can always count to when the game is at stake. I am thrilled that he will continue his incredible career here in Halifax and help us push for a championship."

Over his 10 years in the NLL, the veteran forward has transformed more than just his play on the floor, but in the words and actions in the locker room, the huddle, at practice and on game days. Following the footsteps of his former college teammate and best friend, Sid Smith, Jamieson has embraced and excelled in his leadership role with the franchise. You will be hard-pressed to find a former teammate who would not proclaim the impact that Cody Jamieson has had on any given game and, more importantly on their career.
