Captain Commits to Nebraska-Omaha

Waterloo, Iowa-Since the Waterloo Black Hawks were visiting eastern Nebraska anyway, forward Aaron Pearce's commitment to the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday seems appropriate.

The second-year Black Hawk scored 16 goals with 14 assists during 56 2011-2012 United States Hockey League games. In the playoffs, Pearce is tied for second among the Hawks with four goals. He found the net twice, including the game-winning goal during Waterloo's series-clinching win over the Omaha Lancers last Saturday. That victory advanced the Black Hawks to the USHL Western Conference finals, where they currently lead the Lincoln Stars one-game-to-none and are preparing for Game Two in Lincoln during the best-of-five series on Friday evening. In a two-season career in the league, Pearce notched 25 goals and 46 points in 101 regular season games. The Hawks' captain was recognized as the franchise's Hardest Worker, Booster Club Player of the Year, and Community Service Award winner at the conclusion of the 2011-2012 schedule.

"There is a lot to say about what Aaron Pearce brings on the ice," said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O'Handley. "There's not enough that could be said about what he does off the ice leading our locker room and helping the franchise connect with our fans. Our whole team is excited about this announcement."

Pearce becomes the 16th player currently on the Black Hawks roster to make a college commitment. He plans to join the Mavericks for the 2012-2013 season. Three players on the UNO roster have worn a Waterloo sweater in the past. Forward Brock Montpetit and defenseman Tony Turgeon each completed their sophomore seasons earlier this spring, while goaltender Dayn Belfour was a freshman.
