Caps Sweep Doubleheader Against Flyers

Edmonton completed the doubleheader sweep over the Flyers with an 8-4 win the second game of the twin bill on Thursday at Telus Field.

The Capitals chased Flyers starter Brett Smith from the game in the third inning, tacking on four runs - two scoring on wild pitches - and RBI singles from Cliff Brumbaugh and Matt Rogelstad. Smith finish the game pitching 2 2/3 innings, giving up five runs off five hits, walking three and striking out one.

Capitals first baseman Tom Collaro's three-run double in the fourth inning gave the Capitals an 8-0 lead.

Orange County cut an eight-run hole in half with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to RBIs from Derek Perren and Steve Boggs and a pair of Clint Nageotte wild pitches that scored two runs. Nageotte finished the night pitching five innings, giving up four runs on five hits for the Caps.

The Flyers and Capitals will continue this series five-game Friday as Byung-Hyun Kim maks his fourth start of the season for the Flyers.
