West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
The West Michigan Whitecaps changed their method of attack on Saturday afternoon but it couldn't change their losing ways. Despite banging-out 15 hits, the Whitecaps were edged, 4-3, by the Beloit Snappers in Wisconsin. The loss was the sixth straight for the 'Caps and their fourth straight by a single run.
Trailing 1-0, the Whitecaps cracked five hits in the second inning good for two runs and a 2-1 lead. A Scott Moore RBI single in the fourth made it a 3-1 West Michigan advantage.
Beloit then scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the score and it stayed 3-3 until the decisive tenth when Beloit's Prince Fielder doubled in the deciding run. It was Fielder's second game-winning hit in the series.
Juan Gonzalez and Juan Francia paced the 'Caps attack with three hits apiece. Moore and Brent Clevlen added two hits for the 'Caps who had four runners thrown out on the bases in the game.
The Whitecaps will now conclude their eight-game road trip on Sunday afternoon against Beloit (3:00 Michigan time). Following Sunday's game, the 'Caps come home for four games against these same Beloit Snappers at Fifth Third Ballpark starting on Monday night.
