Capitols Take Down Omaha 3-1, Force Series Split

February 18, 2023 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release

The Capitols ended a four-game home stand on Saturday night as they hosted the Omaha Lancers. The game marked the team's annual Be The Miracle night in support of the Bob Suter Memorial Foundation in celebration of the 43rd anniversary of Miracle on Ice.

After no scoring and a relatively calm first period, Madison was able to jump out to the lead thirty seconds into the second. Oliver Flynn started a rush up the ice after a stick poked the puck off of his stick, Jan Olenginski was able to find the loose change and slam it into the net for his third of the season. The rest of the second remained scoreless as Madison took the 1-0 lead into the locker room.

Omaha tied things up fairly quickly in the third on one of their two power play chances on the night. The Caps battled with the Lancers past five minutes to go in the period. They found twine on a Trey Ausmus goal to take the lead late in the third. The goal for Ausmus was his second of the season, which gave Madison a 2-1 lead. Andrew Kuzma buried an empty netter, and Madison skated away with a 3-1 victory.

Madison improves to 11-29-1-1 on the season with a series against in-conference opponent Dubuque scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Tickets for Saturday's game in the home-and home series can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
