Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI- The Madison Capitols (19-18-10) will look to salvage their season series finale with the Bloomington Thunder (22-20-7) on Sunday afternoon at the Alliant Energy Center. Face off is set for 3 p.m. and can be heard on 106.7 FM, 1670 AM The Zone in Madison and online at www.madcitysportszone.com.
Bloomington has won each of the prior three matchups in the season series, scoring at least four goals in each of those contests. The Thunder walked out of the U.S. Cellular Coliseum with a 5-3 victory on Saturday night in the front end of the home-and-home series. Five different Thunder players got on the scoresheet, and Hayden Lavigne picked up his second victory in as many starts against the Capitols.
On the Capitols side of the ledger, Mitch Hults extended his point streak to eight games with an assist on Freddy Gerard's first period goal. It is the second time in the 2014-15 season that Hults has put together a point streak of eight games. Gerard's goal was his team leading 14th and first since Jan. 17.
However, Madison dug itself too big a hole, trailing 3-1 after 20 minutes and 4-1 midway through regulation. Despite the efforts of Daniel Willett (second period power play goal) and Tommy Muck (third period goal, his first since Oct. 18), the Thunder attack was too much for the Capitols.
Garrett Metcalf was removed from the game after giving up two goals on 14 shots in the first twelve minutes of the game. Darren Smith entered and made 29 saves in relief. Bloomington unleashed 46 shots at the Madison goal in picking up their five-goal night.
The Capitols are looking to end a lengthy home skid; Madison has not won in its hometown (including a Jan. 21 tilt at LaBahn Arena) since Dec. 29.
Following the matinee, Madison hits the road for a second straight 3-game weekend March 13-15 against Des Moines, Cedar Rapids & Chicago respectively.
