Madison Capitols News Release

The Capitols hit the road this weekend with a chance to climb into fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Madison has three games in three days as they gain the game in hand back from six of the seven other teams in the conference.

Madison travels to face off against the NTDP's U17 program on Thursday night. This matchup comes just five days after the Capitols took down the U17s 5-1 in Middleton. The Capitols are 3-0-1-0 against the NTDP as a whole this season, 1-0-1-0 against the U17s. The lone Madison loss to the development program came in late October in a 1-0 loss in overtime.

In the Capitols 5-1 win last week, five different players scored goals for Madison including Mason Moe, who scored the first of his career in the contest. The Capitols went a perfect 2/2 on the power play in the game including the first two goals of the contest.

Thursday night will be a homecoming of sorts once again for three Caps players as Austin Burnevik, Carsen Musser, and Nathan Tobey will return to Plymouth, Michigan, for the final time this season. The trio were the Capitols first three draft picks in the 2023 USHL Phase II Draft after spending two seasons with the NTDP.

Following the game in Plymouth, Madison continues the road trip to Youngstown for the final two games between the two teams during the regular season. The weekend series is the most important to date for the Caps this season as Madison enters the weekend four points back of the Phantoms in the standings. Youngstown sits in fourth place in the conference, which means that if the season would end prior to this weekend, they would host Madison for a three-game series in the 2024 Clark Cup Playoffs.

The games will also be the first time that the Capitols have the opportunity to face off against former Madison player Nathan Lewis. Lewis was sent to Youngstown in a trade this summer after spending his first two USHL seasons with Madison. He made his season debut earlier this month after spending the season up to that point on the Injured List. Lewis registered 53 points in 105 games with Madison.

Madison's game on Thursday night can be streamed on usahockeytv.com with the Friday and Saturday contests being found on FloHockey. Updates for all three games can be found on the Capitols social media pages.
