April 3, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI- The Madison Capitols (22-23-11) will look to pick up a second straight victory over the Dubuque Fighting Saints (33-18-5) on Friday at the Alliant Energy Center.

The two clubs treated the Coliseum crowd to a thriller on March 29, as the Saints raced out to a 3-0 lead eight minutes into the third period.

Madison got onto the score sheet courtesy of Guillaume Leclerc to make it 3-1, but Evan Smith extended Dubuque's lead back to three goals just moments later.

With 8:24 to play in the third, Madison was awarded a 5-on-3 power play, and head coach Luke Strand pulled his goaltender, Garrett Metcalf, to create a 6-on-3. The Capitols scored twice in the next minute and change, off the sticks of Luke McElhenie and Daniel Willett, to bring the Dubuque lead down to 4-3.

Shortly after the Willett goal, a loose puck bounded to Cooper Watson in the high slot. The big defenseman then wristed it over the arm of Saints goaltender Gavin Nieto to deadlock the score, 4-4. Madison had completed the three-goal comeback in just 1:33.

After the two teams stalled offensively through the remainder of regulation into overtime, the game advanced to a shootout for the second time this season between the close rivals.

Nate Sucese kept Dubuque alive in round three after Haralds Egle put Madison ahead in the shootout. Charlie Gerard ended the night in round three, bouncing one in off of Nieto's glove to give Madison its second victory over Dubuque this season, both in shootouts.

The Saints have secured a playoff spot in the East and sit one point back of third-place Dubuque entering play tonight. Madison will face Muskegon on April 10-11 to finish off the season at the Alliant Energy Center.

Madison stays on home ice on Saturday for Pucks N' Paws day against the Des Moines Buccaneers.
