March 29, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI- The Madison Capitols (21-23-11) begin a season-ending, five-game homestand on Sunday for a 3 p.m. matinee against the Dubuque Fighting Saints (33-18-4) at the Alliant Energy Center.
Dubuque has won three of the prior four meetings, including an 8-1 victory on Friday at the Mystique Community Ice Center. Seamus Malone paced the Saints' offense with his second consecutive hat trick to highlight a five-point night. Evan Smith also added two goals and an assist for Dubuque, and Robby Jackson contributed three points.
The Saints have won each of their last four games overall, scoring 19 goals during the streak.
The Capitols put forth a strong effort on Saturday in Chicago against the Steel, but ultimately fell by a score of 2-1. Freddy Gerard scored his second goal in as many nights, his team-best 17th. His younger brother, Charlie, came within inches of sending the game to overtime, as he rang a shot off the post in the game's final seconds.
Madison will try to erase a six-game losing skid in the process. The Capitols' offense has sputtered of late, scoring just 18 goals in the last 11 games. They received a strong goaltending performance in Chicago from Garrett Metcalf on Saturday. The recent UMASS-Lowell commit held Chicago's offense to just two first period goals en route to a 32-save performance.
The Capitols also welcomed Haralds Egle back to the lineup after he served a one-game suspension on Friday. Egle leads all Capitols with eight power play goals.
This afternoon's matinee marks the fifth of six meetings between the Capitols and their "border battle" rivals. They will meet one final time on Friday, April 3 at 7 p.m. at the Alliant Energy Center.
