Madison Capitols News Release

The Capitols welcomed Green Bay to Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena on Friday night to start a two game, two opponent, in two day weekend for the Capitols.

In the first period, the action was minimal on the scoreboard with neither team able to find the back of the net. Green Bay outshot the Caps 14-8 in the games first period.

The second period brought on much more excitement. Sadly for the Caps, the second period excitement went the way of the Gamblers. Three unanswered goals for Green Bay had themselves in the driver seat heading down the stretch of the second. Madison found the back of the net thanks to Jan Olenginski's first career USHL goal to get the Capitols back within two heading into intermission.

In the third, the Capitols found themselves on the man advantage a bunch of times. Madison took advantage of the power play the first opportunity with a goal from Miko Matikka to bring the team back within one. Ten minutes later, USHL Forward of the Week, Finn Brink scored one out of mid air to bring the teams to even at three aside.

The two teams skated even on the scoreboard for the remainder of the period to send the game to overtime. The Capitols made their way to the power play with 1:04 remaining in the extra frame, and Quinn Finley struck to secure the game for the Capitols at a score of 4-3.

The Capitols are back at home tomorrow night as they face off against the Chicago Steel. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
