Capitals Winning Streak Up To Three

June 16, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

The eighth inning is beginning to become a sight for sore eyes when it comes to the Edmonton Capitals. The eighth inning was the turning point on Family Vision Care $2 Tuesday as the Caps rallied for the second night in a row to beat the Victoria Seals 7 - 5. It was the same inning Edmonton waited for to mount their comeback the previous night. The pitcher came out throwing strikes, the hitters were patient at the plate, and the defense was solid. When those elements come together it's a good sign you're playing well. Starter Chris Little pitched six innings, giving up four runs, three earned, and seven hits with three strikeouts. What was most impressive about his performance was the fact he threw 61 strikes and only 18 balls, inducing nine groundouts.

"I know that they are a very aggressive team so I just wanted to put quality pitches in the strike zone and make them get themselves out," explained Little "I've been working hard on my off speed stuff so I think that helped me to keep them off balance."

Larry Bigbie provided the early offense for the Caps with four RBI on a three-run homer in the first and a bases loaded walk in the second to push Edmonton's lead to 4-1 after two innings. The Seals were not about to go anywhere and chipped away, eventually taking the lead 5-4 in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by outfielder Terrence McClain. The Caps weren't about to be outdone and came back in their half of the eighth to take the lead for good. Steve Brown hammered the ninth pitch of his at-bat over the left field fence to tie the game at five. Tom Collaro looped a single into no man's land later in the inning to score two for a 7-5 Capitals lead. Reliever Chad Blackwell came on to pitch the ninth inning to pick up his fifth save of the season.

Edmonton closes out their thirteen game home stand tomorrow night on Sonic Weiner Wednesday at Telus Field before embarking on an eleven game road trip. The Capitals have gone 9-3 so far at home and have moved to 12-10 on the season after a slow start. They will return on Canada Day to face the Calgary Vipers.

The Edmonton Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Capital season seats start at under $9 per game and individual tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the Telus Field Box Office during regular business hours, at (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
