Edmonton Capitals News Release
Edmonton, Alberta- The Capitals celebrated Military Appreciation Day on a hot August afternoon with members of the Canadian Military on hand. The day's festivities included special green hats worn by the Capitals, and a fantastic drum line presentation by members of the military. The Edmonton Capitals and Calgary Vipers concluded the regular season Sunday afternoon with a 9-5 victory by the Vipers. Calgary end's the season with an impressive 49-27 record while the Caps ended their inaugural season with a 44-38 mark.
It was another offensive display as both teams finished with double digit hits. Mike Johnson (2-4, 8.34 ERA) took the loss for the Caps and Erik Dessau (9-5, 6.58 ERA) got the win. At the plate, the Caps were lead by Joe Jiannetti who had two RBI.
Both teams will enjoy a day off Monday before the start of the North Division Finals on Tuesday evening at TELUS Field. The Capitals and Vipers will match up in the best of five series with the winner moving on to the Golden Baseball League Finals against the winner from the South Division. Tuesday will be the teams' seventeenth game against one another since July 21st. Caps starter Lou Pote will be handed the ball in game one on Tuesday and will try to slow down the league's best offensive.
"I'll just take it as a regular season game. Just because it's a playoff game, you don't really like to change things," Explained Lou Pote when asked about his mindset going into Tuesday's first playoff game, "the intensity level is going to be a little higher. I'm just going to go at it like it's a regular season game and make my pitches."
Tickets for the 2009 playoffs are on sale now at the Capitals TELUS Field Box Office, any TicketMaster location, by calling 780-414-GOAL (4625) or by visiting CapsBaseball.ca.
