
Capital District Sports announces new hire

Albany N.Y. - Capital District Sports, Inc. announced today that Mike McCaffrey has been hired as the organization's Director of Corporate Sales. He will be responsible for bringing in business partners from around the Capital Region through corporate sponsorship packages for the company's two sports franchises, the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League and the Albany Conquest of arenafootball2.
"It is not everyday you get to bring in someone with the local experience and qualifications that Mike brings to the table," said President/CEO S. Garen Szablewski. "Mike's knowledge of the Capital District Sports scene and his strong track record in sales should equal great results."
McCaffrey most recently held the title of Sales Manager at the National Institute for Fitness and Sport, a non-profit health and fitness center in Indianapolis, IN. Previous to that position, he served as Director of Communications of the Indiana Firebirds for the 2004 Arena Football season, following the franchise's relocation from Albany.
"I am thankful for the opportunity to return to my hometown and be a part of something special," McCaffrey stated. I am excited to meet with local businesses about helping maximize exposure, awareness, and revenue through our exciting sports entertainment properties."
He has four years of arenafootball2 experience from previous stints with the Conquest back in 2003 and Norfolk (VA) Nighthawks from 2000-2002. McCaffrey was Director of Communications/Football Operations for the Conquest during their second consecutive Northeast Division championship. He worked his way from a football operations intern to Vice President of Media Relations/Merchandise over three seasons in Norfolk with the Nighthawks.
McCaffrey graduated cum laude from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management. Prior to attending ODU, he played two years of college football at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. He is a 1995 graduate of Colonie Central High School in Albany, where he lettered in football and baseball for the Garnet Raiders.
Capital District Sports Inc. owns and operates the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League and provides management services for the Albany Conquest of arenafootball2.
