Cann Named ECHL/Reebok Saver of the Week

Johnstown, PA – The ECHL announced today that Johnstown Chiefs rookie goaltender David Cann is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week for February 14-20.

Cann went 4-0-0 with a shootout win and an overtime win, a 1.70 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage while helping the Chiefs go 4-0-0 to re-enter the playoff race in the North Division of the National Conference.

The 6-2 and 200-pound Cann stopped 26 shots in regulation, one shot in overtime and four of five shooters in the shootout as Johnstown defeated North Division rival Peoria 3-2 on February 15. The Brampton, Ontario native followed that effort by making 34 saves in a 2-1 overtime win at Dayton on February 18 and he had 31 saves in a 4-2 win against Dayton on February 19. The Colgate University alum won his fourth game of the week when he made 33 saves in a 3-2 victory over Trenton on February 20.

In seven games this month, Cann is 4-2-0 with a .921 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.41. He is 9-6-4 overall and has a goals-against average of 2.66 and a save percentage of .917 in his first professional season.

Undrafted by an NHL club, Cann signed with Johnstown after attending training camp with Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. In four seasons at Colgate, Cann was 23-33-5.

The Chiefs are back in action tonight when they visit the Reading Royals at 7:00 p.m. The next home game will be Sunday afternoon when they host the Trenton Titans at 3:00 p.m.
