Canes Announce AHL Coaching Staff Additions

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced additions to the coaching staff for the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. Peter Andersson will serve as assistant coach to Ulf Samuelsson, who was named as Charlotte's head coach on May 31. Additionally, Myles Fee will serve as Charlotte's video coach and Bryn-Marc Conaway will be the team's strength and conditioning coach.

Andersson, 54, served as an assistant coach to Samuelsson with MODO of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) for two seasons (2011-12 and 2012-13), and most recently was an assistant coach for HC Lugano of the Swiss National League. As a player, the Ferdertalve, Sweden, native spent three seasons in the NHL from 1983-84 to 1985-86, scoring 10 goals and earning 41 assists in 172 career regular-season games with Washington and Quebec. The Capitals drafted Andersson, a defenseman, in the ninth round, 173rd overall, in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He also played for Bjorkloven of the SHL and other European teams during his playing career.

Fee, 35, joins Charlotte following seven years as video coach for the Edmonton Oilers. Prior to joining the Oilers, the Dauphin, Man., native worked in team services and as a video analyst for the New York Rangers. Fee played four seasons of collegiate hockey and earned a degree in management and political science at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY, before joining the Rangers' front office. In November he was named as video coach for Team Europe for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey.

Conaway, 28, moves into the full-time role as the Checkers' strength and conditioning coach after working with the team in a part time role since 2012. The Asheboro, NC, native has been with Novant Health Lakeside Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine in Charlotte since 2011, and has worked with Chip Ganassi Racing Teams, the Checkers and high school athletes in varying capacities. Conaway earned his bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science, as well as his master's degree in athletic training, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
