Cane Cutters Blank Generals 4-0

July 23, 2013 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Victoria Generals News Release

The Victoria Generals struggled to find an answer for Acadiana Cane Cutters starting pitcher Jake Winston on Tuesday night as they were shutout 4-0 at Fabacher Field in Lafayette, Louisiana. Winston tossed eight innings of shutout baseball allowing just five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.

The Generals received a solid outing from starting pitcher Trey Wall who allowed just two runs on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts in seven innings, but the Generals offense could never get a serious threat going to back up Wall on the night as Winston carved through the Generals lineup.

The Cane Cutters jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Nate Pugh hit an RBI single to score Connor Barron. A sacrifice hit made the score 2-0 in the fifth inning. The Cane Cutters added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Barron two-run double off of Generals relief pitcher Kyle Keller to make it a 4-0 final score.

Jordan Camel and J.D. Arrowood each had two hits apiece for the Generals in the ballgame.

With the loss, the Generals fall to .500 on the season with a 22-22 overall record. They are now 5-9 in the second-half. The Cane Cutters improve to 26-19 overall and 12-3 in the second-half.

The Cane Cutters and Generals will meet again on Wednesday night at 7:05pm at Fabacher Field in Lafayette, Louisiana for game two of the series.

The Generals return home to start a four-game home stand at Riverside Stadium on Thursday night at 7:05pm against the Brazos Valley Bombers.
