Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD (January 4, 2007) - The Sioux Falls Canaries have acquired right-handed pitcher Larry Robles from the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League.
Robles is a former seventh-round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies. He spent his first three seasons in the Rockies system before joining the Kansas City T-Bones in 2006. Last year, Robles was 5-6 in 16 starts for Kansas City, and his 3.72 ERA was 11th in the Northern League. In early November, Robles was acquired by the Flyers.
"Watching Robles pitch in the Northern League last year, I saw a pitcher that would be a good fit for our team," said Canaries Manager Steve Shirley. "More than 65% of the outs he created were ground ball outs, which is important in our ballpark."
The trade sends catcher David Hoffman to the Flyers. As a rookie in 2006, Hoffman hit .226 with 14 RBI in 51 games.
Bird Seeds: The Canaries will host the Sioux City Explorers on Thursday, May 10, for their 2007 Season Premier, presented by First PREMIER Bank/PREMIER Bankcard.
